More than 350 km of well-marked hiking trails are waiting for you in our beautiful low mountain range landscape. Starting with a circular hiking path through our city forest up to a number of certified long distance hiking trails.

Relax during hikes on the "Hessenweg 1", the "Westerwaldsteig" (from Herborn to Bad Hönningen on the Rhine river), and the "Greifenstein-Schleife", the "Lahn-Dill-Berglandpfad" (from Herborn to Marburg) with the "Dernbachwiesen" extra tour, the "Rothaarsteig" in Hesse, the "IVV-Marathon-Wanderweg" or simply on the "Kleiner Wäller/ Hessentagswanderweg" circular trail passing through the city’s wildlife reserve.

Herborn is also very attractive for cyclists with many picturesque cycling trails leading through forests and meadows. The routes along the Dill river or to the Aartalsee are easy to manage, promising fun for the whole family. More ambitious cyclists will find a vast selection of possible routes in the heart of the Lahn-Dill-Bergland and at the base of the Westerwald. Among others, Herborn can boast a direct connection to the Hessian long-distance cycling route R8, the Orange Route or the Dilltal cycling route. Please use the "Blue Line". On weekends and public holidays this public transportation route connects the "Aartalsee" with the "Krombachtalsperre" on the Westerwald with Herborn right at the center. From April through October, these buses are equipped with user-friendly bike trailers. RMV and the city of Herborn are also offering a special service for their guests traveling with a bike. The so-called "Bike & Ride Boxes" have been installed directly at the Herborn train station where guest may safely store (and charge!) bicycles, e-bikes, and motorbikes.
